Contest Judging

Contest judges will be identified by partners with assistance from DSNY. Finalists will be the top 20 posters for each contest(quantity of posts). Partners will determine assignment of judging.

Judging parameters & guidelines:

  • Finalists will be judged on their ZWS website content, and short answer submission of 2 – 3 questions (Depending on contest).
  • Judges will analyze the submission using a one page rubric – custom made for each contest by partners with DSNY assistance.
  • The first 3 – 5 parts of the rubric will require the judge to assign a value of 1 – 10, 10 being the best.
  • The final part of each rubric will require the judge to write a brief analysis (no more than 100 words) of the entry.
  • Judging should not be a laborious task, rather a quick but thoughtful assessment of a school’s efforts; looking for quality and quantity of posts, thoughtful projects, and student engagement, meeting the individual requirements of the contest.

Judges will commit to the following:

  • Complete judging by the deadline
  • Follow the contest guidelines
  • Submit form

Judges will:

  • Visit www.nyc.gov/zws.
  • Search their assigned school/s using the school hashtag sent to them.
  • Review the submission and complete the one-page review form, assigning a value from 1 -10 for each of the 3 -5 questions, and completing the brief written review.
  • Judges will complete form and scan and email back to zws@dsny.nyc.gov

Winners will be announced on the ZWS in mid-to-late June.
