MAYOR DE BLASIO ANNOUNCES CREATION OF 'NIGHTLIFE AMBASSADOR' POST

As part of his "New York Works" plan, Mayor de Blasio announced that New York City’s first Nightlife Ambassador will be appointed and become part of MOME. The Nightlife Ambassador will be a senior-level administration official tasked with supporting the city’s nightlife and live music industry -- a vital component of keeping NYC a creative and cultural capital.

SURGING TELEVISION PRODUCTION IN NYC BREAKS NEW RECORD

Earlier this month, Mayor de Blasio announced a record-breaking 56 episodic series filmed in New York City during the 2016-17 season. These numbers confirm New York as the premier location for the thriving TV production industry -- reaching new heights year after year.

'BROADWAY IN THE BOROS' RETURNS THIS FRIDAY IN DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN!

Join us for the return of 'Broadway in the Boros,' our signature program bringing free outdoor Broadway performances to neighborhoods across New York City! The first performance is on Friday, June 23 at noon in downtown Brooklyn's Albee Square Plaza, and features the Broadway casts of WAITRESS and CHICAGO.

'ONE BOOK, ONE NEW YORK' WRAPS UP ON A HIGH NOTE

On June 5, Commissioner Julie Menin joined Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, author of the #OneBookNY winner Americanah, and BuzzFeed Books editor Isaac Fitzgerald at the New York Public Library for a special culminating event in celebration of the first-ever citywide reading program. Hundreds of New Yorkers were in the audience as Fitzgerald and Adichie discussed many of the themes covered in Americanah, including immigration, feminism, and race.

'NYC FILM GREEN' CELEBRATES COMPLETION OF SUCCESSFUL PILOT PHASE

On June 7, Commissioner Menin announced results of the pilot phase of NYC Film Green, the nation’s first government program encouraging and recognizing sustainable practices in the entertainment industry. Sesame Street, Madam Secretary, and Divorce all participated in the 6-month trial, which resulted in meaningful reductions to impact on our environment. Stars and creatives from each of the shows joined Commissioner Menin at Silvercup Studios in Queens for the announcement.

COMMISSIONER MENIN DELIVERS PROCLAMATION DECLARING JUNE 8 "GLOBAL HIP-HOP DAY" IN NYC

On June 8, Commissioner Menin joined local elected officials and legendary hip-hop musicians in the Bronx to celebrate Global Hip-Hop Day. The day honored the Bronx as the birthplace of hip-hop, and in particular highlighted Sedgwick Avenue, which was renamed as "Hip Hop Boulevard." The special ceremony also recognized artists Fat Joe, Slick Rick, Kool Herc and The Lox for their important contributions to the genre.

INAUGURAL 'MADE IN NY WRITERS ROOM' FELLOWSHIP RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED

On May 26, the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment joined the Writers' Guild of America, East and the NYC Department of Small Business Services to announce the first-ever Made in NY Writers Room fellows. This innovative program will develop diverse writing talent in NYC's entertainment industry, pairing emerging TV writers with established showrunners from well-known series including Billions, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Law and Order: SVU for one-on-one mentorships.

CONGRATS TO CYCLE 48 OF THE MADE IN NY PA PROGRAM!

On June 16, 12 New Yorkers completed the Made in NY PA Training Program, taking the next step towards careers in NYC’s film and TV industry. To date, the program has prepared 711 previously unemployed and low-income New Yorkers for entry-level jobs as Production Assistants on TV and film sets around the city.

Saturday’s workshop includes a presentation from Dev Hynes (of Blood Orange) and artist and composer Jules Gimbrone.
