UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES & EVENTS
NYC Media - October Premieres:
•   NYC Media, the official broadcast & radio network for the City of NY, consistently rolls out new programming that entertains and educates New Yorkers about the City they love. October will see the debut of four new programs:
    ○      ‘A Manhattan Fantasy’, part of the Blueprint series - the history of how two men created Fort Tryon Park and The Met Cloisters, one the most unique museums in the world, in celebration of Fort Tryon Park’s 90th anniversary. Available on the NYC Media website.
    ○       Beauty Passport NYC - hosted by Stephanie Flor, the exploration of NYC’s vibrant beauty culture where viewers go on a journey through various neighborhoods, meeting with local beauty experts who share their insights and expertise. Airing October 13th @ 7pm on NYC Life Channel 25.
    ○       Sheroes - a weekly radio program created, hosted, and produced by Carmel Holt, that spotlights women's voices on the airwaves and in music, across genres and generations. Airing Fridays at 9pm on WNYE-91.5 Radio.  
    ○       Wow, I Never Knew That! - The new season of a whimsical, half-hour television series that is jam-packed with tidbits and fascinating facts that uncover the truths and origins behind the stuff you are already familiar with.  Airing October 21 @ 9pm on NYC Life Channel 25.
•    And don’t forget to tune into the NY Emmy Awards telecast to see if NYC Media wins for its five nominated programs, including 12 for The NYC Field Guide: How to Thrive in the Five, produced in collaboration with Next Millennium Productions (NMP).
NewFest Film Festival – October 9-21:
•    NewFest returns for its 37th annual New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival, showcasing over 130 premiere films, TV series, panels, parties, and more. Experience LGBTQ+ stories from around the world with in-person screenings and Q&As at SVA Theatre, BAM, The LGBT Community Center, and Nitehawk Cinema Prospect Park, plus 15+ social gatherings and industry events.

Chelsea Film Festival – October 15-19:
•    The 13th annual Chelsea Film Festival will take place at Regal Theatres Union Square and stream online through October 31. The showcase will include independent films from around the world, as well as stories created here in New York City. This year’s lineup includes thought-provoking narratives, inspiring documentaries, and bold short films that push creative boundaries.
•     The festival also hosts a variety of special events, including Opening and Closing Red Carpet celebrations, exclusive film premieres, lively cocktail receptions, insightful industry talks with filmmakers and special guests, and a two-day industry talk series – the Reel Magic Hour – featuring panels for filmmakers to gain industry insight, network, and connect.

BRIC JazzFest – October 17 & 18:
•    The 11th annual BRIC JazzFest returns with a lineup of jazz icons and boundary-pushers across two electrifying nights and stages, and continues to present artists across different regions from North America to Africa, South America to the Middle East, creating an unprecedented global dialogue through jazz.
•    In addition to JazzFest’s diverse international talents, the festival will also feature distinguished artists including GRAMMY-winning vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater, Afrofuturist trumpeter and composer Chief Adjuah, London saxophonist Nubya Garcia, and bassist and composer Endea Owens.

Game-A-Palooza – October 18:
•    NYC will host Game-A-Palooza, the City's biggest indie game showcase, where participants will get the chance to play 50+ new games before anyone else in the world.
•    Supported by MOME and taking place at Hana House, IGDA NYC will present the one-day festival, built to celebrate and spotlight local game developers.

Dominican Film Festival – October 23-28:
•    The 14th Dominican Film Festival in New York City (DFFNYC) will include more than 80 films in a celebration of Dominican filmmaking outside of the Dominican Republic under the slogan “Crossing Borders,” and will host more than 70 actors and filmmakers to participate in Q&A and panel discussions, offering a platform for both new and established members of the Dominican Film Industry.
•     Along with its main venue at AMC Empire 25, #DFFNYC has new venues across the City including United Palace, Alianza Dominicana Cultural Center and The Bronx Music Hall. The festival will open the international premiere of Los Rechazados (The Rejected) Directed by Yasser Michelén, about a group of Dominican outcasts who are tasked to prevent World War III as tensions rise between China and the USA.

“Made in NY” Fall TV Premieres – October:
•   MOME is proud to support “Made in NY” productions, where 75% of the filming takes place in NYC, employing hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and utilizing small businesses. The October “Made in NY” premieres in October include:

“Made in NY” Talks Series – October Programming:
•    Presented in partnership with the Center for Communication, MOME is proud to present the “Made in NY” Talks series, which brings together industry leaders to share insights, information and news with New Yorkers looking to work in the media and entertainment industries. The talks are in-person, free and open to the public. October events include:
    ○     Execs and the City: Meet the Producers Behind HBO’s And Just Like That - Monday, October 6, 6:30 to 8:00 PM @ SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street 
    ○     Where the Jobs Are: Sports Media - Tuesday, October 21, 6:00 to 7:30 PM @ SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street
    ○     Navigating the Infodemic: Public Safety, Health & the Environment - Monday, October 27, 6:00 to 7:30 PM @ Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library, 7 Stories Up, 455 Fifth Avenue

A LOOK BACK
“Made in NY” Awards Ceremony for Theatre and Live Performance Community:
•   On September 15 at Gracie Mansion, MOME proudly presented “Made in NY” awards to LaChanze, Ken Sunshine, Susan Feldman, Patricia Delgado and Justin Peck in recognition of their outstanding  contributions to NYC’s theatre and performing arts communities.
•    Deputy Mayor Adolpho Carrion joined MOME Commissioner Kaufman to present the awards and celebrate alongside NYC’s theatre industry. The event represented the first time that NYC’s theatre community was celebrated with a dedicated “Made in NY” awards ceremony.

“Made in NY” Fund for New Theatrical Works:
•    On September 29, MOME and New Georges announced the creation of the “Made in NY” Fund for New Theatrical Works, which will enable artists to fully develop and place new theatrical works in venues across New York City. In collaboration with New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA), MOME will provide the funds to New Georges to support three new artist-led theatrical projects to be produced in partnership with other NYC theatres, totaling $150,000.
•     The announcement came at New Georges’ annual Big Benefit which celebrated former recipients of the NYC Women’s Fund for Media, Music and Theatre, a groundbreaking initiative from MOME and NYFA that, through a $10 million investment over six years, targeted the equity challenges in the media and entertainment industries.
•     The “Made in NY” Fund takes the next step in MOME’s enduring effort to make the City of NY’s creative sectors accessible to all New Yorkers by ensuring that opportunities are available to underrepresented and diverse creative voices.

Game Devs of Color Expo:
•    On September 19, MOME proudly presented "Made in NY" Grants to NYC based game developers Chris James and Sri Kankanahalli for their games, Scramble Star Crossing and Neon Inferno. The grant presentation took place on the last day of the Game Devs of Color Expo at a live viewing party at OS NYC in Downtown Manhattan, hosted by DaPurpleSharpie.
•    At the event, MOME's Alia Jones-Harvey presented Game Devs of Color Executive Director Catt Small with a Mayoral Certificate of Recognition of Game Devs of Color’ 10th anniversary and their contributions to the Digital Games community.
•     The NYC viewing party culminated the four-day virtual expo that featured panels, developer interviews and new game announcements, and the event served as the culmination of the 2nd annual NYC Summer of Games, an initiative meant to shine a spotlight on NYC's digital gaming community events that take place across the five boroughs over the summer.

Climate Film Festival - September 21:
•    On September 20, during the Climate Film Festival, MOME’s Shira Gans hosted a special edition of the “Office Hours” signature virtual discussion series, part of the NYC Film Green initiative, covering topics essential to the craft of sustainable production.
•    During the panel, experts from IATSE and Earth Angel discussed approaches to sustainable set design and on-set waste management.
