UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES & EVENTS
“Office Hours” Virtual Discussion Series – May 6:
•    MOME is proud to present the “Office Hours” signature virtual discussion series, part of the NYC Film Green initiative, covering topics essential to the craft of sustainable production.
•    The next episode on May 6, which is free and open to the public, will explore best practices in "Carbon Calculating: Understanding Scopes 1, 2 & 3 emissions." Focus will be on how to reduce a production’s carbon footprint and will introduce the tools, programs, and resources available to help film and TV productions track and manage their environmental impact.

NYC Public School Film Festival Screenings – May 9 & 10:
•    The NYC Public School Film festival will include two public outdoor screenings as part of the Movies Under the Stars program.
•    Presented in partnership with NYC Department of Parks & Recreation (NYC Parks), families, students and all New Yorkers are invited to pull out a blanket and enjoy productions from NYC’s next generation of filmmakers at the following events:
    ○  Friday, May 9, 8:15PM, Arch @ Washington Square Park, Manhattan
    ○  Saturday, May 10, 8:15PM, Sunset Park Central Lawn @ 44th St., Brooklyn

NY African Film Festival – May 1-31: 
•    African Film Festival, Inc. presents the 32nd edition of the New York African Film Festival (NYAFF). Convened under the theme, “Fluid Horizons: A Shifting Lens of a Hopeful World,” NYAFF32 honors the resilience of African youth and the forbearers who paved the way.
•    NYAFF32 will include over 50 contemporary and classic films from Africa and her diaspora. With genres from experimental to comedy, NYAFF32 offers a multidimensional take on African culture, history, and cinema.
•    AFF invites middle and high school students to a special Matinee Program during the 32nd New York African Film Festival. Held on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Beale Theater Lincoln Center, the event includes a screening of two short films followed by a filmmaker Q&A. Students will explore themes from the films, engage in meaningful discussion, and have the opportunity to visit the festival’s Art Exhibition.

NYC Video Game Festival – May 31: 
•    The City of NY will host its first-ever NYC Video Game Festival, a day-long free celebration of New York City's booming digital games community featuring esports competitions, arcades, demos and more for New Yorkers to enjoy, Saturday, May 31, 9:00am - 6:00pm at Convene Brookfield Place.
•    The event will include the 3rd annual Mayor’s Cup Minecraft Education Battle of the Boroughs Esports Final, in partnership with NYC Public Schools and the National Esports Association, and will serve as the kick-off to the NYC Summer of Games calendar, tracking digital gaming events across the City from June - September 2025.

A LOOK BACK
Theatrical Workforce Development Program:
•    On April 17 the 7th Cohort of the Theatrical Workforce Development Program had their final sharing.
•    Cohort 7 Fellows secured internships at Ars Nova, Irish Arts Center, New Victory Theater, and the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, NY.
•    This spring, three alumni of the program were sworn into theatre unions and all total, 10 TWDP alumni have become union members thus far!

ReelAbilities Industry Summit: 
•    On April 7 & 8, MOME proudly presented, along with partners at the ReelAbilities Film Festival, the annual ReelAbilities Industry Summit for its 4th year, with remarks given by Commissioner Kaufman.
•    The summit brought together industry leaders, creatives, and presenters to explore disability inclusion in film and performing arts. With a focus on progressive best practices, the event dove beyond the basics to provide actionable resources and open pathways for deeper accessibility and meaningful inclusion in the industry.

50th Chaplin Awards
•   MOME Commissioner Pat Swinney Kaufman was on hand at the presentation of the 50th Chaplin Award at the Film at Lincoln Center Annual Gala.
•   The award was presented to acclaimed Spanish filmmaker and author Pedro Almodóvar.

“Made in NY” Training Program Graduation:
•   The Post-Production Training program recently celebrated the graduation of their 21st cohort.
•   Through the program, 16 New Yorkers learned pro skills in editing/post-production to use in their careers in TV/film, for a total of 301 grads to date!
•    The graduation, attended by MOME Commissioner Pat Swinney Kaufman, serves to increase the talented local workforce available to support this city’s $82 billion film & TV production industry.
