Did you know that November is National Runaway Prevention Month (NRPM)? NRPM is the annual awareness and prevention campaign for runaway and homeless youth issues. Every November, participants across the country host activities and events that amplify the experiences of runaway and homeless youth and the role everyone plays in ending youth homelessness.

In New York City, DYCD funds services for Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) that include Drop-in Centers, Crisis Service Programs, Transitional Independent Living programs, and Street Outreach and Referral Services. In observation of NRPM 2019, DYCD hosted special events including our annual RHY Open Mic night and Brooklyn Nets basketball game.

Advance & Earn is a new training and employment program from DYCD's Workforce Connect for youth between the ages of 16-24. The new program model will offer a continuum of services including literacy and math instruction, HSE test preparation, work readiness training, college and career exploration, paid work experience, advanced occupational training and industry credential attainment supported by case management and wrap-around services. The New York Drives Program is a six-week career training program that combines driving lessons with professional development workshops to help you qualify for Brooklyn Workforce Innovations' (BWI) training programs: Brooklyn Woods (skilled woodworking), Brooklyn Networks (telecommunications cable installation), and Made in NY (TV/film production assistant training).

Roothbert Fund scholarships are open to all in the United States regardless of sex, age, color, nationality or religious background. While the Fund does not emphasize any particular form of religious practice or worship, it seeks to provide support to persons motivated by spiritual values. The Fund has awarded grants to persons entering a wide range of careers.
