In the St.Albans section of Queens firefighters arrived to find this fully involved vacant 2.5 story 25X60 Private dwelling. Due to the heavy fire conditions an exterior attack was needed. Several hand lines and (2) Tower Ladders were used to bring this fire under control. There were reports of a squatter but at the time that I left the fire the searches were incomplete due to structural instability.

Units were called to the scene of a restaurant fire near 179th Street in Fresh Meadows at 0123 hours. A second alarm was transmitted upon arrival for the brick, one-story, 300 x 500 taxpayer. The fire spread into the cockloft and roof. Four lines were stretched and in operation as the main body of fire was knocked down. The fire was placed under control at 0216 hours. Numerous calls reported a fire in the Briarwood/Jamaica Hill sections of Queens at 1145 hours. Upon arrival companies found a well-involved 20 x 40 garage in the rear of a 25 x 50, two and a half-story, private dwelling. A second alarm was transmitted at 1151 hours with fire spreading exposure 4 private dwelling. All searches were negative. Seven handlines were stretched and operating to bring this fire under control at 1306 hours. EMS transported six members with injuries. Brooklyn - Box 1576 - 95 East 31st Street - June 3, 2010
A call was received for a fire near Snyder Avenue at 2223 hours. The fire was in the basement of a two-story, 20 x 60, row-frame occupied dwelling. A second alarm was transmitted at 2233 hours as heavy fire was reported in the basement and cockloft. The fire was placed under control at 2301 hours. There was no extension to exposures. Firefighters responded to a fire near Willets Point Boulevard at 1316 hours. Within six minutes, officers transmitted a second alarm. The fire, which started on the first floor of a two-story brick, 150x300 food factory, extended to the crawl space. Staten Island - Box 0231 - Pier 6 - May 26, 2010
At 1410 hours, firefighters were called to the scene of a building collapse at Hannah Street. The building housed the Cromwell Recreation Center, which is a New York Parks Department facility. Twenty-five units and more than 100 firefighters responded to the collapse, evaluated life safety concerns and cordoned off the area. No injuries were reported. Manhattan - Box 0469 - 502 14th Street - May 12, 2010
FDNY members were called to the scene of a fire in a pizzeria near Avenue B at 1018 hours. Members reported seeing a heavy volume of fire on the roof of the one-story, 75x50 building upon arrival. A second-alarm was transmitted at 1027 hours and a third at 1102. Four tower ladders and four multiversals were in operation. Searches were delayed due to heavy volume of fire. Fire was placed under control at 1256 hours. Four firefighters were injured in the fire and transported to Bellevue. Fire marshals determined the fire was caused by a contractor repairing duct work for a range hood. He was using an electric welder, which ignited grease in the duct. Photo by Supharidh Hy

Manhattan - Box 0259 - 283 Grand Street - April 11, 2010
Members were called to the scene of a fire at Forsyth Street at 2214 hours. The fire began in a six-story, 30x50 structure. The fire quickly escalated and a fourth alarm was called at 2301 hours. The fire was in the basement and on the first floor of the original fire building with extension to the first floor of Exposure 2 (285 Grand). A fifth alarm was transmitted at 2318 hours and a sixth just minutes later. Eight lines were stretched and in operation as civilians continued to be removed from the upper floors. Fire began to spread to the second floor of Exposure 2 and the third and fourth floors of the original fire building. At 2344 hours, all members were evacuated from the fire building and Exposure 2. As a seventh alarm was transmitted at 0007 hours, the fire had been reported to have spread to Exposure 2A on the fourth, fifth and six floors and the cockloft. Extension to Exposure 4 was quickly knocked down. The fire was brought under control at 0213 hours. There was one civilian fatality reported. Staten Island - Box 2368 - 2024 Richmond Avenue - April 10, 2010
A fire was reported in a garden center at 1021 hours. Four lines were stretched and in operation as the fire spread to the cockloft. A second alarm was transmitted at 1057 hours. The two-story, 20x40 frame structure at Amsterdam Place was adjacent to Immanuel Lutheran Church, which sustained a considerable amount of damage by the fire. Staten Island - Box 0282 - 27 Occident Avenue - April 10, 2010
At 1131 hours, a fire was reported in a 2.5-story, 20x60, peaked-roof private dwelling at Sunrise Terrace. A second alarm was transmitted on arrival and a third at 1151 due to the close proximity of Exposures 2 and 4. Fire extended to Exposure 4's second floor and attic. The peak on the original fire building (on the Exp 3 side) was burnt away and sections later collapsed into the attic. Interior fire crews were withdrawn and a TL was put into operation to knock down the heavy volume of fire. Later interior crews were redeployed to extinguish pockets of fire. A majority of the units operating at this box were relocated due the second alarm on Richmond Avenue that was ongoing just as this fire was transmitted. Numerous Brooklyn companies operated. Manhattan Engine 10 was relocated to E160 quarters and was responding to alarms in SI. The fire was brought under control at 1323 hours. Fourteen firefighters received minor injuries. A fire was reported in a mixed occupancy structure at Adelphi Street at 0214 hours. The six-story, 60x100 structure housed a pizzeria on the first floor, where the fire originated, and OMD above. A second alarm was sent at 0234 hours, a third at 0249 and a fourth at 0318. Three lines were stretched and operating. The fire extended to the fourth and fifth floors of the building as well as another adjacent restaurant. The fire was placed under control at 0416 hours. Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire on the second floor of a private home at 168th Street. The fire was first reported at 1325 hours with reports of two people trapped on the second floor of the two-story, 40x80 structure. Three lines were stretched and two in operation. Manhattan - Box 0061 - 80 Maiden Lane - March 27, 2010
Members were called to the scene of a crane collapse in Lower Manhattan at 1933 hours. The crane had struck the side of an adjacent 75x100, 25-story building at the 23rd floor. Firefighters inspected the crane as well as the building, checking for structural damage. They evacuated residents from Exposure 2 (a four-story, 35x100) and 2A (an eight-story, 35x100) as well as the top two floors of 83 Maiden Lane. The crane was moved off the building at 0637 hours. A fire was reported in an OMD between East 91st and 92nd streets at 1712 hours. Numerous residents of the high-rise building called with reports of smoke. The fire, which was located on the 14th floor, went to a second alarm at 1724 hours. The fire was brought under control at 1826 hours. Members responded to a fire in a private home near Gold Street at 0435 hours. The structure was a 25x50, three-story frame with the fire originating on the second floor. A second alarm was called at 0459 hours, with reports of the house being fully involved. The fire was placed under control at 0631. Five firefighters received minor injuries in the fire. Firefighters were called to the scene of a fire in a furniture store at 0953 hours. The fire quickly escalated to a second alarm. Three lines were stretched. A third alarm was called at 1015 hours and a fourth alarm at 1022. The fire was placed under control at 1311 hours. The fire gutted the row of stores in a one-story, 150x75, taxpayer and a large portion of the roof collapsed. Manhattan - Box 0964 - FDR Drive and East 64th Street - February 7, 2010
FDNY units responded to a five car accident on the southbound side of the Drive at 1001 hours. One of the callers said he was pinned in his car and the vehicle was stopped vertical to the roadway. All victims were removed from their vehicles within 15 minutes. Eleven patients were treated for minor injuries. EMS members transported one victim, who was green tag, to New York Hospital. At 0949 hours, a call was received for a fire at 54th Street and Ninth Avenue. Callers said the fire was located in the bedroom of the fourth floor apartment. Within minutes units arrived at the 7-story, 200 x 100 structure, where there were reports of trapped residents. Firefighters were called at 1440 hours to the scene of two-story, 30x40 frame residence at Channel Avenue. The caller reported flames shooting out the windows and high heat conditions. A second alarm was transmitted at 1445 hours. At 1513 hours, all firefighters were removed from the residence for an exterior attack. All searches were negative.
