Ladder 47 Celebrates Centennial

A plaque is unveiled to honor Ladder 47's centennial.

Firefighters in the Bronx celebrated on Dec. 4, as the members of Ladder 47 marked their firehouse’s 100th anniversary.

“A centennial is a moment to look back at all of the accomplishments – the heroic acts, the good times and the bad, and see how important a firehouse is to the community it serves,” Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano said. “It’s remarkable to think of the number of lives impacted, lives saved, and buildings that still stand thanks to the members here over the last 100 years.”

Numerous past and present members, as well as neighboring firehouses attended the ceremony.

“It’s always great to see the pride that goes into centennials,” Chief of Department Edward Kilduff said. “Your history is the service you provide to this Bronx community.”

Members of the firehouse, including Firefighter Jim Senk, recently were recognized for their great work in rescuing a young child from a fire.

“For 100 years our members have served this community with distinction, professionalism and courage,” Lt. Ernesto Tirado, Ladder 47, said. “This didn’t happen by chance, much of the credit goes to our members’ work ethic.”
