Fire Promotions
The new fire lieutenants take the oath of office.
Firefighters from across the city traveled to Randall's Island on June 9 for fire promotions.
"Promotions are always a happy occasion," said Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano. "I know that no matter what obstacles we face, with officers and firefighters like you here today, we will get through anything."
During the ceremony, 10 captains, one supervising fire marshal, 30 lieutenants, one marine engineer and four marine wipers were promoted.
The auditorium at the FDNY Academy was filled with well-wishers from across the city.
Among those promoted to lieutenant was Firefighter Shaun Burgos from Ladder 19, who was awarded the Vincent Kane Medal the day before at FDNY Medal Day.
"We want to show the city what we can do," said Chief of Department Edward Kilduff. "We welcome you to your new rank."
