FDNY Receives Grant from Fireman's Fund Insurance and CMJ Underwriters

Representatives from Fireman's Fund Insurance and CMJ Underwriters join FDNY chiefs and firefighters at the quarters of Engine 58/Ladder 26 in Manhattan for the grant check presentation.
FDNY members graciously accepted a $17,860 grant from Fireman's Fund Insurance Company and CMJ Underwriters on June 3, in the quarters of Engine 58/Ladder 26 in Manhattan.
"These companies are a great support to the FDNY and fire departments nationally," said Chief of Operations Robert Sweeney. "These tools will help our members stay in shape and maintain their skills."
The grant helped purchase of a forcible entry simulator, exercise equipment and tools to enhance the training of its members.
"This isn't about writing a check," saidGlenn Skrynecki, Vice President Fireman's Fund. "It's all about strength of the Department and the strength of the community."
The forcible entry simulator consists of doors attached to steel columns on a portable base which allows firefighters to train on gaining access to locked doors in an emergency.

Firefighters demonstrate the forcible entry simulator.
The grant also will be used for power tools to help clean and better maintain existing firehouse tools and apparatus, as well as video equipment firefighters can use to improve drills and other training. Additionally, funds will be used to purchase flashlights to aid firefighters when searching a smoke filled room, as well as for a treadmill, elliptical trainer and exercise bike to keep firefighters physically fit.
"Just being here, I know we're in good hands," said Anthony Cuchinell, VP of Claims at CMJ Underwriters. "We depend on every one of you every day."
James O'Connor, President of Douglas Elliman added, "It's simply a pleasure to be here and in your company. I hope this will help you in some small way."
