Fire Marshals from the FDNY Bureau of Fire Investigation arrested 24-year-old Jamal Thomas Sept. 10 for starting two fires at Domino's Pizza locations in August and September this year. Domino's estimates the fires resulted in more than $1 million in damages and lost business.

"Mr. Thomas endangered the lives of our firefighters and innocent civilians," said Chief Fire Marshal Robert Byrnes. "We will not tolerate this type of behavior and will hold these individuals fully accountable for their actions. I commend our fire marshals for their excellent investigation and timely arrest in this case."

Marshals charged Mr. Thomas with multiple counts of arson, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and a host of other charges. These charges are punishable by up to 25 years in prison.  The prosecution of this case will be handled by the Office of Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson.

A fire was reported at 4000 Boston Rd. in the Bronx on Aug. 22 at 6:32 a.m.  It took 12 units and 60 firefighters to bring the fire under control. No injuries were reported.

Another fire was reported on Sept. 5 at 4:42 a.m. at 3560 White Plains Rd. Twelve units and 60 firefighters brought the fire under control and no injuries were reported.

In both incidents, several small fires were set throughout the location using available combustible materials such as cardboard and pizza boxes.

Mr. Thomas recently was training to be an assistant manager at Domino's until he was terminated for violating company security protocols. Following his termination, Mr. Thomas donned his uniform and returned several times to Domino's locations, claiming to be a member of a secret Domino's unit that measured employee satisfaction.

Fire marshals' investigation led to Mr. Thomas as the only suspect. At the time of his arrest, Mr. Thomas was carrying a loaded .357 stainless steel revolver.
