Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta joined Van Wagner CEO Richard Schaps and other FDNY officials in midtown on May 6 to unveil the 2009 EMS Week poster celebrating National EMS Week, which starts on Sunday, May 17.
"One million New Yorkers reach out to EMS for help each year," said Commissioner Scoppetta. "It's a tough job, but they get the job done."
This year's poster features Paramedic William Meringolo, from Station 4; Paramedic Keith Rock, of Station 15; EMT Anlo Yu, from Station 4; EMT Edward Rodriguez, if Station 20; and Principal Administrative Assistant Diana Flynn, from EMS Operations.
The image was designed to highlight the life-saving skills of the 3,000 FDNY EMS members and illustrate this year's FDNY EMS Week campaign theme: 'Moving at the Speed of Life.'
"This represents the truly outstanding men and women of the FDNY EMS Command," said Chief of EMS John Peruggia.

The posters will be displayed across the City on 350 telephone kiosks donated by Van Wagner.
"We're honored to be involved with this," said Mr. Schaps. "[The FDNY's paramedics and EMTs] get up every day and deal with life and death; and we're all counting on them to take care of us."
EMT Yu said she was happy to participate in the creation of the poster because it confirmed why she joined the EMS Command, "I've always been interested in health care and I wanted to make a difference, one patient at a time."
