The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
returns federal, state, and New York City tax dollars to qualifying families and individuals to help cover basic expenses. Working families earning less than $40,000 a year could be eligible for as much as $6,000.

In order to claim the EITC, eligible taxpayers must have earned income and must file a tax return. Please note: Only taxpayers with a valid Social Security Number can claim the EITC. Individuals with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) are not eligible to claim the EITC. New York City's EITC Coalition is here to help qualifying New Yorkers file their taxes for free or at dramatically reduced rates at tax preparation sites citywide.

Read on to find out who's eligible, how to file, and participating Coalition partners.
