The Cable Installation training program is delivered in partnership with Brooklyn Workforce Innovations. This six-week, full-time training program prepares students to get their BICSI certification and work as network cable installers. Cable installers make an average of $21/hour. Graduates are connected to local employers hiring for this position.

As a requirement of Local Law 196 of 2017, workers at job sites requiring a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator, or Site Safety Manager must have a total of 40 hours of safety training. To determine whether your job site requires the safety training, please visit the Site Safety Construction Map and enter your job site address.

The Construction Site Safety Training Program will provide you with the required training to work on most construction jobs sites in NYC. The training is provided at no cost and will help you obtain your Site Safety Training (SST) card.

For those with no prior training, the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) provides 40 hours of required Site Safety Training for New York City residents who are 18 years or older. This training includes 30 hours of NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) approved training, 8 hours of fall prevention, and 2 hours of drug and alcohol awareness training.

For those with a valid OSHA 30 card, received within the last five years, SBS provides a fast track to earn your SST card by completing the final 10 hours of training (8 hours of fall prevention, and 2 hours of drug and alcohol awareness training.)

The HVAC Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program provides in-person training to New Yorkers to develop in-demand skills for careers within the Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) field. Participants will have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials and certifications, and will also receive job readiness and placement support. This program is offered in partnership with SBS, its Workforce1 Industrial & Transportation Career Center, the Mayor's Office of Talent and Workforce Development, and New York City College of Technology (City Tech) to support the city's Green Economy Action Plan.

This program includes 12 weeks of full-time, in-person training in which participants can earn credentials and certifications in the HVAC sector such as:

• OSHA 30
• OSHA Site Safety
• EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) Section 608
• Mold Awareness
• Confined Space
• Fire Safety
• Asbestos
• NCCER HVAC Credentials

All candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Age 18 or older
• New York City resident
• Registered for Selective Service (if applicable)
• Authorized to work in the United States
• Unemployed, or earning less than $40,000 per year
• Have high school diploma or equivalency
• Interested in a career in HVAC
• Can stand for long periods of time
• Able to lift 50+ pounds
• Able to pass a grade level 8 math and reading aptitude assessment

Preferred Qualifications:

• NYS Driver's license + previous driving experience

NYC °CoolRoofs provides New Yorkers with the opportunity to earn paid work experience and credentials in the construction sector. The program supports the city's goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. This initiative is a partnership between SBS, its Workforce1 Industrial & Transportation Career Center, the Mayor's Office of Climate and Environmental Justice, and The HOPE Program.

This transitional training opportunity includes:

• 10 to 11 weeks of full-time, paid work experience installing energy saving reflective rooftops at a starting wage of $16 per hour
• Opportunity to earn credentials in the construction sector, including 4-Hour Flagger, 4-Hour Scaffold User, CPR/First Aid, OSHA 30, and Construction Site Safety Training (SST) certification at no cost

Note: Some certifications and other classroom-based trainings may be offered virtually. NYC °CoolRoofs may be able to assist participants with technology to support virtual learning.

All candidates are expected to meet the following minimum requirements:

• Age 18 or older
• New York City resident
• Registered for Selective Service (if applicable)
• Authorized to work in the United States
• Unemployed, or earning less than $50,000 per year
• Able to follow safety measures and protocols
• Able to work a flexible schedule that includes early mornings 
• Able to navigate New York City and travel to installation sites throughout the five boroughs
• Committed to pursuing a career in construction
• Able to perform manual labor, such as climbing stairs, carrying 50-pound buckets, and working on a roof in all weather conditions
• Able to work with paint that contains latex and silicone ingredients

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior driving and construction experience
• Able to use email, phone, and maps applications
