My File NYC
My File NYC is a document storage and sharing mobile-first website developed, managed, and piloted by the Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity (NYC Opportunity). It provides New York City residents a safe and secure place to manage their family’s vital documents. My File NYC makes it easy to decide what documents to share and unshare and decide who to share the documents with.
My File NYC is being piloted at the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) Prevention Assistance and Temporary Housing (PATH) Center, the City’s intake center for families experiencing homelessness. NYC Opportunity designed and managed the pilot in partnership with the DHS PATH Center, and with the support of New America (a Washington, DC-based think tank).
The second phase of piloting concluded in December 2023. Phase 3, a more general expansion, is underway. My File NYC is being expanded to support additional homeless services backed up by new research and design from the partners working on the pilot.

- Upload and manage secure, encrypted backups of vital documents like ID cards, social security cards, utility bills, etc. View, download or delete anytime.
- Share when applying for temporary shelter or housing.
- City program administrators can sort, download and update the status of documents.
HOW WE CREATED MY FILE NYC
My File NYC was developed in partnership with New America, KiipCO (formerly Two Bulls, a Brooklyn-based firm), and Blenderbox. It was:
- customized and modernized to meet NYC’s rigorous security and quality standards (e.g. available in local law languages),
- takes advantage of NYC’s technology services (such as single sign on),
- and improves the experience and features to meet resident and staff needs (e.g. dashboard so it’s searchable, sortable and organized).
