Diabetes is a condition where your body cannot control the level of sugar in your blood.
Prediabetes means your blood glucose (sugar) level is higher than normal but not high enough to be considered diabetes. People with prediabetes are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes within 5 years.
The good news is that type 2 diabetes can be delayed or prevented in people with prediabetes through effective lifestyle change programs like the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP).
WorkWell NYC brings NDPP to the workplace, providing convenient access to life‐changing classes that empower employees to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Over the course of a year, a lifestyle coach leads participants through discussions about:
✔ | Eating healthy | ✔ | Managing stress |
✔ | Losing weight | ✔ | Staying motivated |
✔ | Incorporating physical activity into your daily lifestyle | ✔ | Coping with challenges and problem-solving |
✔ | Establishing and maintaining healthy routines |
The NDPP can delay or reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 58% through lifestyle changes resulting in modest weight loss of 5%-7%.
NDPP classes are currently occurring in several agencies across the city, including DOHMH, DOE, FDNY, ACS, NYCHA, and DOT! Yours could be next!
WorkWell’s diabetes prevention program is open to NYC employees FREE of charge. View the requirements
Participants MUST:
✔ be at least 18 years old
✔ have a body mass index (BMI) that exceeds 25

Not sure if you are prediabetic? Visit your health care provider to have an A1C test performed or take the CDC Prediabetes Screening Test here. If you score a 9 or above, you may be at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
