Green Power Credit Request

The City of New York purchases wind power credits that support the production of approximately 30,000 MWH of electricity each year. These credits are currently purchased from the New York Power Authority through Horizon Wind and represent the output from 13 MW of power produced by wind power turbines in upstate New York. Arrangements have been made with the U.S. Green Buildings Council (USGBC) to allow the City to utilize its purchase of these wind power credits to qualify for green power points on LL86 LEED® projects.

In order to utilize the city-purchased wind power credits to qualify for points under one of the LEED® rating systems allowed by LL86, either the city agency managing construction or the agency that manages the funding, lease, or land acquisition agreement on a project should submit the MOEC approved LL86 offline reporting form, after the project starts construction, to the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).

Upon review and approval, DCAS will allocate the necessary wind power credits for the project and forward the templates needed for the agency to apply to the USGBC for LEED® green power points.
