Open Engagement with the NYC Police Commissioner on Issues of our Times

Today, New York City Police Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell is launching “Ask the PC,” a landmark initiative for meaningful dialogue on matters of policing and public safety. Each week, beginning immediately, readers will submit questions for the commissioner on the NYPD’s Instagram page, @NYPD. The first woman to lead the nation’s largest police department looks forward to producing candid video responses to questions from community members.

Over the arc of time, the collective give-and-take will unveil more about the 45th New York City Police Commissioner’s views on an array of important topical matters. It will also create a regular channel for thoughtful communications designed to deepen the understanding between the public and the police at a pivotal moment for New York City.

“New Yorkers are passionate, inquisitive, and they are our greatest partners in ensuring community safety,” said Commissioner Sewell. “They deserve answers to any number of questions that arise, and I embrace this new opportunity to connect with them. Nothing is more fundamentally human than speaking to one another and sharing ideas.”

“Ask the PC,” will facilitate a continuing dialogue.

Today, the NYPD has launched the initial conversation. The department has positioned its Instagram Story feature to receive all questions coming from the public. As part of this interactive experience, followers of the NYPD’s Twitter and Facebook accounts will see posts directing them to the NYPD Instagram page – if they wish to participate in “Ask the PC.”
