Requests for Media Attention

The Department often relies on the information it receives from the public to successfully solve crimes or locate missing persons. In those efforts, the NYPD regularly appeals to the public, often through the media, for assistance in:

  • Identifying a person in a photo or video in connection with a crime;
  • Locating a person wanted for questioning or in connection with a crime; and,
  • Seeking a missing person.

Many of these requests, directed to both the media and the public, are posted on NYPDnews.com.

Anyone with any information regarding any of the listings is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 888-57-PISTA (74782). The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then entering TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential.
