Section 8 Program Update Regarding Annual Recertifications

January 25, 2023

If you (or your Section 8 tenant) received a termination notice or notices regarding an incomplete annual recertification between August 1, 2021 and March 31, 2022, these annual recertification termination notice(s) were sent in error due to an IT system issue with document processing and have been withdrawn. You can ignore the notice(s). NYCHA is not seeking to terminate your Section 8 benefits at this time. The suspension of terminations for failure to complete an annual recertification has been extended to at least June 30, 2023 (*updated*). You do not need to take any action at this time. NYCHA will contact you if more information for your recertification is needed.

Updates and what you can expect for next steps:

  • NYCHA will continue to process annual recertifications.
  • If you receive a Voucher Change Notice with your new tenant share, based on your annual recertification, your annual recertification has been successfully processed.
  • If you receive a request for additional information, you must respond to complete the annual recertification process by the deadline provided in the request.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may have caused.
