LPC Will Resume Public Hearings/Meetings Virtually

The agency will use the video conferencing application Zoom, which will allow for testimony and public participation

New York – Today, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) announced that on April 21,2020, the agency will begin holding public hearings and meetings through the video conferencing application Zoom, and live-streaming them through its YouTube channel. This will enable applicants to present their projects to the Commission and the public to watch the presentations live on YouTube. Interested members of the public will also be able to provide live testimony by joining in through the Zoom app or by calling from any telephone.

"While we will be using a new platform for our hearings, we will ensure our hearings are fair, transparent and accessible to the public," said Landmarks Preservation Commission Chair Sarah Carroll.

In response to COVID-19, LPC has been adjusting its processes and procedures to ensure the agency can continue to provide services to the city while protecting the health of staff, applicants and the general public. LPC has been accepting electronic filing of all permit applications and issuing permits electronically since March 17, 2020, and now the agency will be holding virtual public hearings. LPC has also added an additional public hearing day to the May calendar, on May 5th. The items that will be presented on April 21st are items that were originally scheduled for March 17th.

Participants, both applicants and members of the public, should watch the LPC live YouTube stream on www.youtube.com/nyclpc to follow the proceedings. Items will generally be called in the order in that they appear on the public hearing agenda, but the Commission reserves the right to change the order when necessary. The hearings will be streamed live on the scheduled date starting at the beginning of the hearing, typically at 9:30 a.m. If anyone has concerns about access to and/or participating in the virtual hearings, they should contact LPC and the agency will work with them to make accommodations.

Instructions and additional information for participating in the LPC zoom public hearings are available on the LPC website https://www1.nyc.gov/site/lpc/hearings/hearings.page.
