Fernanda Pérez Villarreal, Special Assistant to the Commissioner

Fernanda Perez Villarreal is the Special Assistant to the Commissioner. She plays an important role in supporting the Commissioner’s efforts to foster strong and positive relationships with the diplomatic and international community.

As the Special Assistant, Fernanda facilitates meetings and events with the diplomatic corps that help push the interests of New York City on the global stage. She works closely with the UN Permanent Missions, Consulates, foreign governments, the United Nations, and other entities.

Prior to joining the International Affairs team, Fernanda worked as a Youth Violence Prevention Organizer at a non-profit where she educated and mentored young people on social justice and healthy relationships. She also worked as a journalist at different organizations where she published stories that had an impact on the community.

She holds a graduate degree in diplomacy from the University of Oxford and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Georgia. At Oxford, she served as the Student Representative of her cohort, and the Women’s Officer of her College.

Fernanda is originally from Mexico, and currently resides in Manhattan. During her free time, she loves exploring the diversity of NYC’s five boroughs.
