Prevention and Counseling

The Center for New York City Neighborhoods (CNYCN) is a non-profit organization created in 2008 in response to the foreclosure crisis through the collaborative efforts of the mayor, HPD, the New York City Council, community advocates, foundations, and corporate leaders.

Since 2008, the Center for NYC Neighborhoods has been committed to promoting and preserving affordable homeownership for New Yorkers. The Center and its Network Partners offer high-quality housing counseling and legal services, free of charge, to meet the diverse needs of New York homeowners. To date, the Center and its network have served over 30,000 homeowners.

Notification

Notify HPD of a foreclosure. Local Law 4 of 2012 requires mortagees to notify HPD within fifteen days when they commence or discontinue a mortgage foreclosure action against any residential propert in New York City. Notification is also required when mortgagees receive a judgment in a foreclosure action, sell a coreclosed property, or if a receiver is appointed.
