Each year, the Mayor's Office leaders Secret Snowflake, a citywide gift-giving initiative that brings comfort and joy to youth who receive City social services - including children in foster care, shelters, temporary housing, or being raised by kinship caregivers. With the help of generous donors and volunteers, we fulfill holiday wish lists from youth across New York City. Please join us in supporting NYC Service's essential program by making a donation today.
For other ways to get involved, including giving in-kind, please visit the NYC Service Secret Snowflake form.
The Department of Homeless Services (DHS) is launching the Pets in Shelter initiative, which expands pet-friendly services across shelters in all five boroughs. This winter, DHS is expanding Drop In Center (DIC) access during Code Blue weather emergencies to allow people to come inside with their pets. There will be one pet-friendly DIC in each borough, offering warmth, safety, and dignity to unsheltered individuals and their pets. DHS is also launching its first-ever Pet-Inclusive Pilot at one of its Stabilization Sites, which serve unsheltered individuals. For the first time, people living on the street will be able to come indoors with their pets, not just service or emotional support animals, but their companions.
High demand items include (but are not limited to): Crates, pet beds, leashes, harnesses, collars, wet and dry food, food and water bowls, treats, waste bags, and toys. To make a donation or to learn more, please reach out through the Mayor's Fund contact page.
The City's Family Justice Centers serve victims of domestic violence and their families and provide the help they need to begin to rebuild their lives. Baby products, maternity clothes and toiletries are always in demand.
The Family Justice Centers also accept non-perishable food items for their clients. Appropriate food items - such as canned goods, macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, or crackers - are often in high demand at the Centers.

The Mayor’s Fund supports a host of special events for our agencies and partners throughout the year. In-kind donations of space, catering, audio/visual equipment, and contributions of small items that can be shared with attendees help agencies create meaningful events for New Yorkers across the five boroughs.
