The City of New York offers tax exemptions and abatements for seniors, veterans, clergy members, people with disabilities, and other homeowners. These benefits can lower your property tax bill.

The SCHE benefit is available to property owners who are 65+ with an annual income of $58,399 or less.
The deadline to apply for SCHE for the current tax year is March 15. (If March 15 falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline is the next business day.)

The clergy exemption is available to eligible retired or active clergy members and their spouses/widow(er)s. The deadline to apply is March 15.

The Childcare Center benefit is a property tax abatement for property owners whose property construction, conversion, alteration, or improvement completed after April 1, 2022, resulted in the creation of a new childcare center or an increase in the number of seats at an existing childcare center. Property owners may be eligible for a property tax abatement covering up to $225,000 of construction costs.
You may apply for the STAR exemption with the Department of Finance if you received STAR in 2015-16 but later lost the benefit. You may apply for the Enhanced STAR exemption if you are a Basic STAR recipient and are eligible for Enhanced STAR. If you did not receive STAR in tax year 2015-16, you cannot apply for the STAR or Enhanced STAR exemption with the Department of Finance. However, you can register online for New York State STAR tax credit or by calling (518) 457-2036.
