NEW YORK CITY ANNOUNCES AVAILABILITY OF ONLINE PAYMENT PLANS FOR PARKING TICKET DEBT

Entering into a payment plan for parking tickets in default can prevent future enforcement actions, such as having a vehicle booted or towed.

New York, NY— New York City Announces Availability of Online Payment Plans for Parking Ticket Debt Entering into a payment plan for parking tickets in default can prevent future enforcement actions, such as having a vehicle booted or towed. New York, NY – The New York City Department of Finance today announced the availability of online payment plans for parking tickets that have not been paid and are in default – known as judgment debt. Those with $350 and more in parking ticket judgment debt can now enter an online payment plan with DOF to make payments over time instead of paying all at once, which can prevent enforcement actions such as having a vehicle booted or towed.

“This administration is committed to clearing away the bureaucratic hurdles that make it harder and more time-consuming for New Yorkers to access basic city services. This new online payment plan will provide an easier and more seamless experience for those looking to pay off their parking tickets,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. “We encourage any New Yorker who has outstanding parking ticket judgment debt to take advantage of this service as soon as possible to prevent enforcement against their car, like being booted or towed.”

“Understanding that financial hardships or other challenges can arise, the Department of Finance is excited to offer New Yorkers our new online payment plan system for a more convenient way to pay off parking ticket debt,” said Department of Finance Commissioner Preston Niblack. “Entering into an online payment plan with DOF and making payments in installments can prevent future enforcement actions, so don’t delay and enter an online payment plan today.”

More FAQs:

  • For judgments under $350, you must agree to a 60-day payment plan with a 50% down payment. For judgments that are $350 and more, a payment plan requires a minimum of 20% down payment and a payment plan term of 24 months or fewer.
  • A lower down payment amount or longer plan length may be available to individuals experiencing financial hardship. This requires the submission of additional information and income certification. For more information, contact the Department of Finance via our customer service portal at www.nyc.gov/parkingticketpaymentplans.
  • Although your payments will be more manageable with a payment plan, the total amount you owe will increase because interest will continue to accrue until the amount you owe is completely paid off. For example, if you owe $1,000 and you choose a 24-month payment plan with 9% interest, you will end up paying a total of more than $1,100. You can avoid additional interest by paying the full balance owed, or by paying more than the monthly installment amount, at CityPay.
