HERricane NYC Program

NYC Emergency Management invites New York City high school students to participate in the I-DIEM HERricane program in NYC, designed to encourage young women* from 16-22 years old to pursue careers and leadership roles in emergency management. The program consists of a weeklong session from Monday, July 8th, 2024 to Friday, July 12th, 2024 that will be hosted at NYC Emergency Management's headquarters in Brooklyn. NYC Emergency Management intends to select up to 20 students to participate in the 2024 program. The selected young women will be participating in activities focusing on emergency management and personal development, including workshops, simulations, trainings, and field trips led by NYCEM employees and other partnering NYC agencies.

There is no cost for students to participate in the program.

Upon the conclusion of the program, participants may be selected to attend monthly "aftermath" sessions throughout the remainder of the year, which may include professional mentorship from both I-DIEM and NYCEM employees.

Eligibility

The program is open to women* between the ages of 16 - 22 who live in the five boroughs.

*NYC Emergency Management is inclusive of all women, including transgender and cisgender women, and non-binary people. NYC Emergency Management encourages all women to apply for the program.

How to Apply

Interested students can apply by completing and submitting the following materials linked below:

• HERricane NYC Consent Form (if 18 or older) OR HERricane NYC Parental Consent Form (if under 18)
• I-DIEM HERricane Photograph & Video Release Form

All entries must be submitted to HERricane@oem.nyc.gov with the subject line "HERricane NYC" by June 14th, 2024 at 11:59 PM.

Applicants will be admitted on a rolling basis and will receive a notification no later than 2 weeks after the application deadline.

Selected participants will receive further information, including a program schedule and next steps, via email.
