DHS Outreach

The DHS Outreach unit serves as a liaison between the agency and constituents, elected officials, faith and community leaders, and 59 community boards to keep neighborhoods informed of relevant issues and concerns as they transpire. By developing solid relationships with community groups, DHS can raise awareness about the issue of homelessness, and further its mission throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

Additionally, in collaboration with community organizations, nonprofits, and corporations, DHS Outreach works to coordinate special events designed to enrich the lives of children and adults experiencing homelessness in New York. In a City with enormous educational and cultural offerings, DHS organizes more than 300 events each year, including 125 cultural festivities, 75 educational projects and 50 sporting events.
