DSS COMMISSIONER BANKS AND BRC CEO MUZZY ROSENBLATT HOST TOUR OF LANDING ROAD RESIDENCE UNDER CONSTRUCTION IN THE BRONX

Mixed-use transitional and permanent affordable housing residence will be first purpose-built facility to open under Mayor’s Turning the Tide plan

NEW YORK—Tomorrow at 9:00am, Department of Social Services Commissioner Steven Banks and Bowery Residents' Committee President and CEO Muzzy Rosenblatt will lead a tour of the Landing Road Residence site, where construction is well under way on the first purpose-built mixed-use facility of the Mayor's Turning the Tide plan. Landing Road will provide New Yorkers with both affordable and temporary housing opportunities, including giving 200 employed/employable New Yorkers experiencing homelessness the opportunity to be sheltered closer to their support networks and communities they called home as they work to stabilize their lives. This portion of the location will be a transitional residence, with services designed to prepare clients for more permanent housing. Priority placement will be offered to Bronxites, including those from this Community District.

Commissioner Banks and BRC President Muzzy Rosenblatt will discuss the importance of collaboration between DHS and not-for-profit service providers like BRC in addressing the citywide challenge of homelessness—as well as the importance of mixed-use facilities like these in our efforts to turn the tide.

Landing Road is the first new construction of a colocated permanent supportive affordable housing development and homeless shelter created and financed under Mayor de Blasio's HomeStretch program. As part of the HomeStretch model, at Landing Road, BRC will leverage shared financing to provide cost-effective shelter and to subsidize rents for very low-income, formerly homeless individuals and families on the same site. In addition to permanent housing, HomeStretch will provide a variety of social services to facilitate the transition from shelter to self-sufficiency.

Media interested in attending should RSVP with Arianna Fishman at fishmana@hra.nyc.gov.
