Diversity & Equal Opportunity Affairs

A former shelter resident (near right, with a case manager at the Kensington Shelter in Brooklyn) moved out with rental assistance from one of the City's new programs, CityFEPS.

DHS' Office of Diversity & Equal Opportunity Affairs (DEOA) is responsible for promoting diversity within the agency and implementing the City's Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and standards.

The DEOA office also handles requests for reasonable accommodations for employees, as well as any complaints of discrimination filed by DHS employees, job applicants, and clients. Furthermore, the office aims to incorporate diversity into the agency's day-to-day endeavors, as it delivers sound, culturally sensitive and relevant services to New Yorkers.

DHS makes every effort to place clients where they feel safe, and where staff can ensure appropriate, affirming, and culturally competent services.
