DDC Early Career Development Program Tour: Police Academy

The Department of Design and Construction Early Career “EC” Development Program consists of tours, presentations, trainings, and workshops geared towards recently hired professionals to ensure continued professional growth, education, and collaboration. The program also aims to promote cross functional knowledge and collaboration to improve relationships with peers and understanding of overall DDC program goals.

On October 20th, 2017, Sr. Construction Project Manager Robert Petroff and Project Manager Intern Anthony Pittelli, a fellow “EC” professional led a tour of the New York Police Academy in College Point, Queens for EC participants.

Opened in 2014, the new $750 million state-of-the art training facility was designed to provide the NYPD with the space and technology needed to provide comprehensive training to both new recruits and uniformed officers. Participants received a first-hand look at these training environments as well as some history behind it.

This LEED® Gold certified 750,000 square foot training facility features a weight room, gymnasium, swimming pool, classrooms, cafeteria, and an indoor/outdoor track. The facility also provides mock training environments including a bank, restaurant, park, grocery store, precinct, court room, subway station, and apartments. This allows all types of training to be centralized into one location including counter-terrorism, school safety, active-shooter, etc.
