DDC Hosts Build It Back Contractor Outreach Networking Event

On Tuesday, October 18th 2016, the Office of Diversity & Industry Relations (ODIR) and DDC's Public Buildings unit hosted a contractor outreach networking event for minority and women-owned businesses (MWBE). This event facilitated networking between MWBE subcontractor’s and the Build it Back (BIB) program’s prime contractors. The program was launched in 2013 to assist homeowners, landlords and tenants in the five boroughs whose homes and properties were damaged by hurricane sandy.

Associate Commissioner Christine Flaherty spoke briefly about the program and its crucial agenda to rebuild promptly and provide MWBE contractor’s the opportunity to bid on projects. “It was a well-attended and informative event for the DDC, our contractors and the additional contractors interested in this critical program for the city,” she added.

Over 300 MWBE firms were invited to attend the event and learn more about current subcontracting opportunities available with the Build it Back program. Construction subcontractors in the New York City and New Jersey area were invited to attend the two-hour networking and information session. Key team members from each of the BIB construction management firms were on hand to discuss a wide range of topics including the firm's history, and its safety program, pre-qualification process, commitment to diversity and current subcontracting opportunities within the program. Interested attendees were strongly encouraged to bring information about their businesses, such as business cards and capability statements. The event also featured informative breakout sessions with topics including: the Project Labor Agreement, Ongoing Program Operations and a networking session.
