Ribbon Cutting: Rescue Company 3

December 31, 2009

Deputy Commissioner David Resnick joined departing Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta and newly appointed Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano to celebrate the opening of the headquarters for Rescue Company 3, one of the oldest operating rescue units in the City. The 22,000-square-foot building is operational 24 hours a day, and contains offices, kitchen and dining facilities, a dormitory, and an apparatus bay that accommodates the Company’s three vehicles.

"This project stands out for a number of reasons, including the modern functionality of the building, which includes rooms for fitness and specialized training, and the comfortable atmosphere that well serves the fire fighters who spend many hours here," said Deputy Commissioner Resnick.
The headquarters include a workshop to maintain and test equipment, a woodshop, and a lumber storage room that provides for the storage and preparation of materials for collapse response. Other unique design features include multi-level terraces for training activities, a double-height apparatus bay, and an interior vertical training tower.
