Ribbon Cutting: Park Slope Library

On September 13, Commissioner Burney helped celebrate the opening of the Park Slope Library, in Brooklyn. The project, a significant historical restoration opportunity, included the restoration and refinishing of the library’s extensive woodwork and paneling, new bookcases, restored fireplaces, and the restoration of the opalescent glass skylight over the vestibule.

“Our goal was to keep what’s best about the Park Slope Library by restoring its historic interior, while introducing elements that reflect the needs of a modern library,” said Commissioner Burney.
In addition to the restoration work, a new glass floor was added at the mezzanine level, new lighting was installed, and new furniture was placed throughout the library. The library, now 117 years old, was one of the first branches built in Brooklyn.
Others in attendance included Borough President Marty Markowitz, Brooklyn Public Library President Linda Johnson, and Assemblymen Jim Brennan and Brad Lander.
