Energy Support

WaterWorks World Premiere: Meshell Ndegeocello's Can I Get A Witness? The Gospel of James Baldwin

One of the myriad ways that the City of New York supports the cultural sector is by providing energy subsidies to cultural organizations operating out of city-owned property in DCLA’s jurisdiction. This critical source of support, which covers all heat, light, and power expenses, provides funding for those unglamorous aspects of building management in order to help organizations focus more on cultural programs.

Until FY16, energy subsidies were provided only to members of the Cultural Institutions Group (CIG). In FY17, DCLA expanded the subsidy to all cultural organizations on property in DCLA’s jurisdiction.

In FY18, the total energy subsidy provided by DCLA to the cultural sector is approximately $42.5 million.
