De Blasio Administration and Council Member Menchacha announce landmark city-funded public art project on climate change to commemorate the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy

The artwork, designed in collaboration with local youth, will educate and inspire residents about the challenges and opportunities for the neighborhood and the city as a result of climate change and rising sea levels. The Red Hook neighborhood saw unprecedented flooding during Hurricane Sandy, which took a heavy toll on its residents and businesses.

Theater Subdistrict Council Now Accepting Initial Submissions for New Diversity Grant Program

Deadline for Intent to Apply is May 11, 2016
The Theater Subdistrict Council has announced a new grant program which will award up to $2 million in grants, with preference given to programs designed to increase participation from people currently underrepresented in the professional theater community. Three information sessions for potential applicants will be held from March 24-28.

Open Call for Cultural Development Fund Panelists

Now through February 22, the Department of Cultural Affairs is accepting nominations from individuals interested in recommending or participating as panelists for the Cultural Development Fund (CDF) application review process. Panelists should have knowledge of the agency and the constituency it serves, demonstrate expertise in at least one cultural discipline, and (for borough-specific panels) be familiar with the cultural community of a specific borough.

Artist Residency with NYC Department of Cultural Affairs & NYC Administration for Children’s Services: Open Call Closed

The NYC Department of Cultural Affairs (DCLA) and the NYC Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) are partnering in an effort to provide enhanced resources and support for the City’s population of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) in the foster care system. Specifically, the agencies are seeking an artist-in-residence for the SCO Family of Services’ Group Living for LGBTQ Youth program, to use his/her/their art practice to engage LGBTQ youth, create
opportunities for them to express themselves creatively and to experience NYC’s cultural offerings, and further engage them with the services and resources available through ACS. The open call is now closed. Artists will be notified of their application status by April 1, 2016.

Diversity and Equity in NYC’s Cultural Workforce: Survey Results

The Department of Cultural Affairs launched a major initiative in January 2015 to promote and cultivate diversity among the leadership, staffs, and audiences of cultural organizations in New York City. To establish a baseline understanding of the staff and board makeup of New York’s cultural organizations through a survey to nearly 1,000 recent DCLA grantees.
