Recent Activity

The Department has been working with AECOM and members of Committees to develop a new code governing Waterfront Construction.  The new Code will supplement the existing land-based construction regulations, and work in tandem with state and federal requirements.

The Department has been working with the International Code Council and members of Committees to develop the NYC Existing Building Code.  Modeled on the International Existing Building Code (IEBC), the provisions will specifically address alterations performed on existing buildings.

The New York City Electrical Code Revision Cycle was launched in Summer 2018. Comprised of subject matter experts and industry stakeholders organized into six technical committees and a managing committee, the effort will result in adopting and modifying a more recent edition of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70.

The Department has organized a series of Committees to review the technical and administrative provisions of the 2022 NYC Construction Codes. The Committees include:

  • Technical Committees. Technical Committee members are subject matter experts in their respective committee.
  • Advisory Committees. Advisory Committees are formed (on an as needed basis) to consider issues that overlap the jurisdiction of Technical Committees or require a deeper level of analysis. Members consists of representative stakeholder organizations and City agencies providing revision recommendations for the administrative provisions of the Codes.
  • Managing Committees. The Managing Committee is responsible for reviewing and accepting Technical Committee and Advisory Committee proposals regarding the technical and administrative provisions of the Codes. Members include the chairs and co-chairs of the Technical and Advisory Committees, as well as representatives of construction, labor, real estate, government, professional and other stakeholder organizations.
