Economic Development

  • Chair: Mr. Christopher Toomer
  • Meets: 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to identify and respond to issues related to existing or proposed economic opportunities for the District, and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Community Board #16 Liquor License Review Application

Education and Youth Services Planning

  • Chair: Melanie Mendonça
  • Meets: 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to identify and respond to youth related issues such as education, recreation, substance abuse, teenage pregnancy, and employment, and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Environmental and Sanitation

  • Chair: Bilal Ndongo
  • Meets: 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to identify and respond to any issues relating to the environment such as clean air, noise pollution, safe and adequate water supply, as well as the appropriate manner for the collection and disposal of garbage for the District and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Health and Human Services

  • Chair: Rev. Dr. Miran Ukaegbu
  • Meets: 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to identify and respond to issues and concerns related to the general health and welfare of the residents of District #16, and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Land Use, Planning, and Zoning

  • Chair: Ms. Adrainer Coleman
  • Meets: 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to review/entertain all land use matters related to zoning and existing or proposed usage of property in the District, and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Land Use, Planning and Zoning Committee Request

Legislative

  • Chair: Pamela M. Junior-Baptiste
  • Meets: 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to review legislation that will have an effect on the District and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Parks and Recreation

  • Chair: Ms. Deborah Williams
  • Meets: 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Works closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to ensure that the recreational needs of the District are identified and met, and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Personnel, Budget, and Finance

  • Chair: Mr. Michael Howard
  • Meets: 3rd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson on personnel matters relating to the Board regarding staff and make recommendations to the Board regarding the Capital and Expense Budget needs of the District as it relates to the Citywide Budget.

Public Safety

  • Chair: Margaret Brewer
  • Meets: 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to review and entertain comments regarding policies and procedures relating to the public’s safety with regard to the Police and Fire Department, and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Senior Citizen Affairs

  • Chair: Ms. Patricia Winston
  • Meets: 3rd Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to identify and respond to concerns relating to the needs, benefits, and resources for seniors, and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Transportation and Franchises

  • Chair: Sydone Thompson
  • Meets: 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to address any and all concerns relating to established and/or proposed franchises for the District and identify and respond to the District's needs/resources relating to transportation issues such as mass transit, traffic lights, street lights, and condition of roadways and sidewalks, and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Veterans' Affairs

  • Chair: Dr. Cleopatra Brown
  • Meets: 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to advocate and achieve the greatest outcomes for veteran residents of the District, and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

Women's

  • Chair: Dionne Grayman
  • Meets: 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m.
  • Purpose: Work closely with the District Manager and Chairperson of the Board to identify and respond to issues relating to the needs/available resources for the female population of the District and make recommendations to the Board regarding same.

*Work Groups:  

The Committees have been structured into Work Groups which enable them to work collaboratively on issues and projects in the District based on the committees' interconnected purposes and to ensure that the greatest amount of community benefits are achieved through the work of the thirteen (13) committees, and increase board member and community resident awareness and participation in the work of the committees.
