How to Get It and Keep It

Finding and keeping safe stable housing is one of the most important things you can do to make sure you have a successful future. ACS works with your foster care agency to help you obtain and keep your housing.

Housing Academy Collaborative

The ACS Housing Academy Collaborative (HAC) helps prepare you to get and keep your housing when you leave foster care. If you are between 16 & 21 years old, expecting or parenting, help is available.

HAC Housing Specialists can help you with

  • Resume and career building
  • Employment and career planning
  • Education goal setting and planning
  • Financial Literacy
  • General Knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Rights
  • Negotiating With Creditors
  • Referrals for education, employment, internships
  • Job training and placement through partnerships with FEGS Academy, Swiss Board, Year Up, and CO-OP Technical.

HAC offers training sessions to fit your schedule

  • Five core trainings for youth 16 to 24 years old.
  • Four core trainings for young adults 19 to 24 years old.
  • Two additional trainings for pregnant and parenting youth.
  • Training cycles will be offered throughout the year.
  • Classes are held weekly, and can be completed at your own pace around your work and school schedule.

Attend Classes

HAC training sessions are conducted every Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., except for holidays. Metrocards and a light meal will be provided. Qualified youth in foster care do not need to register to attend.
