Alternatives

ACS’ continuum of juvenile justice services includes community-based programs that:

  • Prevent at-risk young people from getting involved in the justice system.
  • Prevent youth from being detained or placed in a residential setting once they become involved in the justice system. These programs, called alternative-to-detention (ATD) and alternative-to-placement (ATP) programs, give Family Court Judges the option to send young people home with services in place, rather than putting them in detention or placement programs.

ACS oversees the following alternative juvenile justice community-based programs:

  • Preventive: Family Assessment Program (FAP)
  • Alternatives-to-Placement: Juvenile Justice Initiative (JJI)
  • Respite: temporary respite care for youth who are at risk of detention or placement because of family concerns
