Statement from Mayor Bill de Blasio on Inclusion of Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Programs in Congressional Omnibus Bill

December 16, 2015

“Last night, Congress finally made clear: we will be there for our 9/11 heroes, just as they've been there for us. This bill should give over 72,000 first responders and survivors in New York City and around the country long-overdue peace of mind, knowing that they will have access to the vital health care and support they need.

“This would not have been possible without the leadership of Senators Gillibrand and Schumer, Congressmembers Maloney, Nadler, Donovan, and King, and our entire delegation. I’m also grateful to the bipartisan coalition of mayors around the country who joined us in this fight.

“But most of all this is a testament to the first responders and survivors whose stories – and whose tireless push on the Hill and across the nation – moved Congress to act and ensure that when this country says never forget, we mean it.”
