Readout of Mayor de Blasio's Meeting with District Attorneys and the Special Narcotics Prosecutor

November 13, 2014

Mayor de Blasio welcomed Robert Johnson, Ken Thompson, Cyrus Vance, Jr., Richard Brown, Dan Donovan and Bridget Brennan to City Hall this afternoon as part of the Administration’s ongoing efforts to deepen coordination and collaboration with each office.  At today’s meeting, the Mayor provided an update on the Administration’s five borough plan to reduce crime, and underscored the need for the City and DAs to continue to closely work together to implement an integrated city wide public safety strategy that continues to drive down crime, while reducing unnecessary arrests and incarceration, combatting domestic violence and drug abuse, and promoting fairness.

At today’s meeting, the District Attorneys expressed their gratitude for the deep investments the administration has made to support more strategic use of prosecutorial resources, and shared their thoughts and observations on the change in marijuana possession policy announced Monday.

Noting the almost daily interaction between the District Attorneys, Police Department and the Mayor’s Office, the group decided to formalize those conversations with the establishment of regular public safety strategy meetings that will focus on key issues of mutual concern.

Also in attendance at today’s meeting:  First Deputy Mayor Tony Shorris, Police Commissioner Bratton and Director of the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice, Liz Glazer, and Corporation Counsel Zach Carter.
