Statement from Mayor Eric Adams and Commissioner Castro on Immigration Relief Extension to Ukrainians

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Commissioner Manuel Castro of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs today released the following statement in response to President Biden extending Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to tens of thousands of Ukrainian immigrants living in the United States:

“Amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, we thank President Biden for listening to our call to extend Temporary Protected Status to thousands Ukrainian immigrants living in the U.S. 

“With the largest population of Ukrainian immigrants living in the country, this effort will protect thousands of New Yorkers in a time of crisis. The city stands by our state partners in ensuring that New York is a safe haven and that we lead the nation in supporting immigrant communities in a time of need.” 

Ukrainian New Yorkers can visit for more information or call the Mayor’s Office of Immigrants Affairs’ Immigration Legal Services Hotline at 800-354-0365 for help in applying for TPS, as well as for connections to city-funded, free, and safe immigration legal help.
