NEW YORK–Mayor Bill de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray today announced the appointment of Rachel Noerdlinger as Chief of Staff to the First Lady.

“Rachel brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and know-how to City Hall, and I’m thrilled to have her join us,” said First Lady Chirlane McCray. “Rachel shares my commitment to bringing social justice to the forefront in this city, and I look forward to having talent like hers on the team.”

Most recently the President of Noerdlinger Media, Noerdlinger brings two decades of experience fighting for civil rights, a fairer justice system, and better employment and education opportunities for low-income and minority communities. Noerdlinger was previously Executive Vice President of Communications for the Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network, where she helped shape national campaigns on criminal justice, voter protection, and education issues.

“Chirlane and I have known Rachel for years, and she has done a terrific job for Rev. Sharpton,” said Mayor de Blasio. “Rachel has been a strong voice for this city’s underserved communities, and she will be a great addition to this administration.”

“Mayor Bill de Blasio, First Lady Chirlane McCray and the de Blasio family represent the tapestry that is New York City and the future for progressive politics,” said Chief of Staff for the First Lady Noerdlinger. “I am looking forward to working with the First Lady as she engages New Yorkers from all communities, and serves as a voice for the voiceless. As she focuses on agenda items that embrace activism and grassroots engagement, and reaches out to New Yorkers in every borough, I am proud to work with her and our new Mayor. I know they will continue to usher in positive change to this city, its residents and beyond.”
