Greenway

Community Board No. 9 supports the Rockaway Beach Branch Greenway Committee's application for assistance through the National Park Service Rivers, Trails & Conservation Assistance Program. Furthermore, the Board is proud to serve in the role as a partner in promoting and implementing this valuable Greenway.

The Board will further support this effort by lobbying for the implementation of additional environmentally sound alternatives to benefit pedestrians and cyclists.

We firmly believe that the creation of this Greenway will greatly enhance the quality of life in the communities of south central Queens. It would be an asset to the community and would take the place of the abandoned right-of-way of the former LIRR Rockaway Beach Branch. Indeed, it will link central Queens to Jamaica Bay via a safe and lush corridor. Young and old members of our communities look forward to the implementation of this visionary and environmentally sound project.

We thank Richmond Hill resident Jordan Sandke for spearheading this greenway and are elated that the students of Newcomers High School in Long Island City are working with this Board to help bring this project to fruition.
