STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON THE PASSING OF YOMO TORO

“We are saddened by the passing of internationally renowned guitarist and New York resident since 1953, Yomo Toro (Victor Gillermo Toro Vega Ramos Rodriguez Acosta), who died of kidney failure on June 30, 2012. One of New York City’s most revered Latin musicians, Yomo Toro spent five decades playing the cuatro, a Puerto Rican 10-string guitar-like instrument, recording albums, and appearing in commercials, television and film.  We extend our condolences to his wife Minerva; his daughter, Denise; his sisters, Lydia, Iris, Mirza and Milagros; his brothers, Juan, Angel and Arcangel; his five grandchildren; and his three great-grandchildren and join them in mourning his death and celebrating his special contribution to our cultural landscape.”
