STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON U.S. SENATE VOTE REJECTING ROLLBACK OF EPA MERCURY RULES

“Cutting mercury pollution will save countless lives and help millions of Americans avoid the serious health consequences it produces. That is why today I am so encouraged that the United States Senate, in a bipartisan vote, rejected efforts to block the long overdue Mercury and Air Toxic Standards Rule from taking place, and sided with mayors, mothers and community health officials from across the nation. I would like to thank Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Jackson and Senator Boxer for their leadership on this issue and also acknowledge the strong commitment of New York’s Senators Schumer and Gillibrand to clean air and public health.”
