“John Doar is an unsung American hero – a patriot who risked his life for the cause of civil rights, and who never stopped working for liberty and justice. The values that have guided his life are the values that have made our city – and our country – a beacon to the world.  It's wonderful to see him receive the nation's highest civilian honor, and I know how proud his son, Robert, is of all his work. We're grateful that Robert is extending his father's legacy of public service as our Commissioner of Human Resources.
