MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION INCREASING FEES AT THE TAXI AND LIMOUSINE COMMISSION, THE DEPARTMENT OF BUILDINGS AND THE BOARD OF STANDARDS AND APPEALS

Remarks by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

“The final three bills before me today help balance the Fiscal Year 2012 budget approved by the Council on June 29th and will help achieve efficiencies and revenues for the City in future years as well.

Introductory Number 473, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Recchia and Seabrook, increases the fees for licenses and inspections of yellow taxis and for-hire vehicles.  License fees would increase from $60 to $84, and inspections would increase comparably.

Introductory Number 570, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Recchia and Koo, increases the minimum Buildings Department application filing fee from $100 to a range between $130 and $280, depending on the type of alteration proposed.

Finally, Introductory Number 571, sponsored at the request of the Administration by Council Members Recchia and Koo, increases fees for Board of Standards and Appeals applications, fees, filing and reviews by anywhere from 25% to 100%.

I would like to thank Taxi & Limousine Commission Chair David Yassky, Buildings Commissioner Bob LiMandri, Board of Standards and Appeals Chair Meenakshi Srinivasan and their staff along with my Office of City Legislative Affairs for their work on these bills.  I would also like to thank the City Council for approving this legislation.”
