STATEMENT OF MAYOR MICHAEL R. BLOOMBERG ON EXPIRATION OF NEW YORK STATE RENT REGULATION LAWS

State Laws Affecting Many Rent Stabilized Apartments in New York City Expired

“While the expiration of these laws creates unnecessary uncertainty, tenants should not experience any impact while their current leases are in effect.  The expiration of these laws does not allow the landlord to terminate the lease or to raise the rent or reduce services during the term of the lease. If a landlord tries to do so, tenants should call 311 to be transferred to the New York State Homes and Community Renewal, which administers rent stabilization.”
