MAYOR BLOOMBERG SIGNS LEGISLATION REQUIRING THE MARKING OF BOUNDARIES FOR CERTAIN CONCESSIONS IN PUBLIC PARKS

Remarks by Mayor Bloomberg at a Public Hearing on Local Laws

“The final bill before me today is Introductory Number 21-A, sponsored by Council Members Nelson, Foster, James, Mark-Viverito, Mendez, Crowley, Levin and Williams.  Introductory Number 21-A requires the Department of Parks & Recreation to visibly mark the boundaries of certain concessions in public parks and post those boundaries on their web site.

“Concessions that are exempt from this marking requirement include mobile food vendors, seasonal concessions, concessions that are less then two-hundred square feet or more then two acres in size and those concessions that are not possible to mark due to terrain.  The penalty for exceeding the boundaries is from $200 - $1,000 per violation in addition to any penalties pursuant to the concession agreement.

“I would like to thank Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe and his staff for their work on this bill along with my Office of City Legislative Affairs.  I would also like to thank the Council for approving this legislation.”
